Temples & Shrines Related to the Tale of Genji Introduced
"Genji Monogatari Sen-nenki Kinen, Tokubetsu Kanko Passport," a guidebook introducing temples, shrines and facilities mainly in Kyoto Prefecture that have a strong connection with the Tale of Genji has been produced.
The book has been issued by Genji Monogatari Sen-nen Iinkai, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto, which was formed by Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City and others. Fourteen locations, such as Kamigamo Shrine and Shimogamo Shrine, both in Kyoto City, the venues of the Aoi Festival described in the Tale of Genji, are explained with overviews, addresses and photographs. It also includes the romantic story of Hikaru Genji.
Extra services, such as an entrance fee discount, are available when the passport is presented at the temples, shrines and facilities that appear within it. The 24-page passport is printed on A5-size paper and costs 300 yen. Two hundred thousand copies are being sold at different locations, including the Kyoto City Tourist Information Office.
