Fusing an entire town with art, "Roppongi Art Night" will transform the heart of Tokyo for one special night. From March 28 (Sat) to 29 (Sun), 2009, this town-wide event will paint the urban canvas of Roppongi with the theme of "Encounters." Art of all types will be appearing in a diversity of spots and scenes around town. Especially during the event prime time hours from sunset (17:59) on March 28 to sunrise (5:32) on March 29, stimulating art programs await around every corner.
Kenji Yanobe "Giant Torayan, Torayan's Adventure"
Towering 7.2m in height, Yanobe's giant fire-breathing robot "Torayan" lights up the night with flames.
Date: March 28th (Sat), 18:00 - 29th (Sun), 18:00
Location: Roppongi Hills Arena
Other events include "art cube" installations directed by artist Katsuhiko Hibino, Jiro Hirano's glowing balloon parade, Fujiko Nakaya's "fog sculpture" at Mouri Garden and many more.
Main venues: Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, Suntory Museum of Art, and the National Art Center, Tokyo. They will stay open a lot later than usual to accompany your night out. Check the website for more information.

Kenji YanobeKenji Yanobe graduated from Graduate School of Art, Kyoto City University of Arts in 1991. Inspired by the theme of survival in a modern society, he created numerous large-scale mechanical sculptures that can move or even be worn or ridden from the beginning of 1990. With the dawn of the 21st century, he has shifted his focus to the topic of revival and continued his prolific creative output, fascinting the world with works that transcend the framework of conventional art.
